Customizing time card text
You can validate and provide a lookup for the time card text field, otherwise known as remarks. e-timecard gives you the flexibility to let employees enter open text, or require them to enter specific text codes from the list that you set up.
On the Parameter Setup screen, the Customize Remarks (user-defined label) dropdown list gives you the following options.
Validate and Enable Lookup—e-timecard validates employees’ text entries against the codes that you set up under Valid Values, and it allows employees to look up from those text codes.
Validate with No Lookup—e-timecard validates employees’ text entries against the codes that you set up under Valid Values, but it does not let employees look up from those text codes. Keep in mind that if you select this option, employees will have to know the text code to enter to avoid receiving a hard error.
Don’t Validate—e-timecard neither validates employees’ text entries nor provides a lookup. You can still, however, select text to appear as a free-form field on the time card.
After you set up your company's parameters, you must do the following to finish setting up options for time card text.
On the e-timecard Initialization screen, select time card text as one of the fields that appears on time cards, and indicate whether it is required or optional.
If you selected one of the validation options from the Customize Remarks field, go to the Valid Values screen to set up the text codes that employees will enter on time cards.
Remember that you can also customize the label of the time card text field if you wish on the Company Setup screen.
