How do you want to validate contract labor categories?
You can decide how you want to validate the contract labor categories that employees enter on time cards. Do you want to validate only that the labor category exists? Or, do you want to validate not only the labor category, but also the mapping information that you link to it on the Labor Category Mapping screen?
If you select one of the two mapping validation options, this is how it works. The program first checks to see if the labor category is mapped to the employee entering the time card. If it isn’t, then the program checks to see if the labor category is mapped to the cost element on the time card line. If the program finds no mapping record for the cost element, either, then it generates an error.
Following are your options for the Validate labor categories (user-defined label) field on the Parameter Setup screen.
Validate Codes Only (the default setting)—The program validates only the labor category itself. So, as long as the labor category exists in the database, the code will pass validation.
Validate Codes and Mapping—As long as the map’s effective date is within or prior to the time card period, the employee can enter the labor category and hours on any day of the time card period, even if the day is before the map’s effective date.
Validate Codes and Mapping by Day— e-timecard compares the day on the time card to the effective date of the map. The employee can enter the labor category and hours only if the day is on or after the map’s effective date.
