Selecting cost elements


Cost elements represent the lowest level at which your company tracks costs. Your company uses cost elements for reporting and invoicing. Follow these instructions to enter a cost element on your time card.

To select a cost element

  1. On the Edit Time Card screen, enter the cost element in the Cost Element (user-defined label) field.

  2. If you need to look up the cost element, click Look Up to the right of the Cost Element field. The Look Up Cost Element (user-defined label) screen appears.

  3. Enter one or more search criteria. Your choices are: cost element code, cost element description, cost class.

    Hints:
    You can enter partial information in a search field, such as 1 to retrieve all cost element codes that begin with the number 1, or %1 to retrieve all cost element codes that contain the number 1. You can leave all search fields blank to retrieve all cost elements.

  4. Click Search to retrieve cost element records that match the criteria you entered. The search results appear in the bottom section of the screen, which includes a count of the number of records found.

  5. If necessary, scroll to find the cost element that you are looking for.

  6. When you find the cost element you are looking for, click Select to the left of it. The Edit Time Card screen reappears with the cost element that you selected added to the field.

Note that at any time while looking up a field, you can click Cancel to cancel your search, close the screen, and return to the Edit Time Card screen.
